This past weekend Rhonda and I ran into an old friend. She had gone through a terrible divorce over 20 years ago and remained single and true to life in her strong faith all those years. She has always been a source of inspiration to us both.
A few years ago she met a wonderful man who had lost his wife to cancer. But as the Lord takes away and gives, he brought them together. They were married and very happy. Life was good, together.
In less than 2 years he contracted cancer and before their second anniversary he went to be with the Lord.
As our friend was sharing this story my heart sank deeper and deeper. I felt her loss and grieved with her. Yet, before the conversation was over she said this: “Yes, it was tough. I have asked all the questions there are to ask. I have struggled. Yet, God gave me him for 2 years. These were 2 of the best years of my life. I am grateful for those 2 years treasured each day.”
Life is like a vapor, a mist. It comes in quietly and then it vanishes to be seen no more.
Think of the life, lives that you have around you. Though they may be difficult to manage at times, though they are flawed… they are still life. Celebrate life. Life is given to you for a season. Cherish it. Hold on tightly. See the lives in your life as good. Let them know you are grateful for them and, my prayer is that we all … act like it.
