A Heart Warming Story about Tracking Santa Clause at Norad- Colorado Springs, CO

To get you into the magic of Christmas, read this article about NORAD tracking Santa Clause every year on Christmas Eve.

NORAD is the Command Center for the U.S. military buried deep in Cheyenne Mountain to missile proof it from people who don’t like the U.S. NORAD is within site of our home here in Colorado Springs. It’s the last mountain on the south end of the Front Range of the Rockies. The Front Range majestically spreads its tree lined beauty north to south fronting America’s Mountain- Pikes Peak. Cheyenne Mountain is easy to spot because of the huge radio towers shooting up in the clouds.

This article is about the man who lived here in Colorado Springs (family still does) who became known as the Santa Colonel. He started the tradition of NORAD tracking Santa on Christmas Eve.

Some people think the military is all gruff and growl, this article proves differently. It reminds us that behind every uniform, every badge, every rough voice barking orders, is a warm heartbeat. Thank God for our military that in spite of very difficult and often cold responsibilities, they still have warm places in their hearts for children and Christmas. Let them know you appreciate “all they really are and stand for.”

The article is found in a magazine we receive from our Country Co-op Service. The magazine is an award winner and has some great articles on country life, hometown values, cowboy poems, Colorado recipes, local fly-fishing stories, and funny local stories. I look forward to reading it each month.

Hope you will pass this along to friends and family.

It brings back memories, while stationed with the 4th INF. Div. our unit would hand out gifts at various places around the Springs with the NORAD tracking playing on the radio. Kids would be excited and to have real gifts for Christmas brought joy all around.
